Removing Concrete Floor Anchors

This video shows the process for removing the old unusable bolts and replacing them with new wedge anchor bolts in preparation for receiving a new delphi spe.

If the bolt is rusted in place spray it with a penetrating lubricant and allow the lubricant to soak in according to manufacturer s instructions before removing. Usually a screwdriver pipe wrench or vise grips can unthread the protruding bolt leaving the female anchor flush with the concrete. Remove the anchor bolt from the concrete by turning the bolt counterclockwise with the socket. Step 2 grip with pliers then grip the nut with pliers and pull upward. A steel anchor is stubborn and its removal will usually cause damage to the concrete floor.

Before installing the wedge anchor drill the hole two times the length of the wedge anchor being installed. Therefore don t be too hard on the anchor bolt when it refuses to budge. Often a bolt can be removed simply by unscrewing it. There are only two ways to eliminate the wedge anchor from sticking above the concrete which are.

Place the threaded nut onto the concrete anchor bolt. Tapcons are removable because they are threaded screws that tap threads into the concrete brick or block. To be removed wedge anchors can be sawed off with a hacksaw or cutoff wheel at the surface of the base material. Female concrete anchors are generally simpler to remove.

Protruding anchors may be removed using and angle grinder of a boltbreaker. If needed a hammer can be used to knock the anchoring tube below the floor and in some cases these tubes can simply be pulled out of the hole entirely. Make sure it s tight and flush with the bolt s upper side. Using a cutoff saw or grinding wheel cut the wedge anchor off at the surface of the concrete.

Any protruding metal may be pounded into the concrete using a heavy hammer. Step 3 use a bolt extractor on a stubborn bolt.
