Replace Toilet Flange Concrete Floor

This technique helps ensure the ring is in the proper position when placing the toilet over the flange.

If using a plastic flange ring be careful not to crack the ring by screwing the anchors in too far. Toilet flanges provide a stable surface that the toilet grabs onto through retaining bolts. Screw the toilet flange onto the concrete use tapcon anchors or a similar type of masonry concrete screws to fasten the toilet flange to the concrete slab. The keys to success are precise measurements so that you purchase the right sized replacement flange and extra attention to ensure that the toilet sits flush on the floor at the end of the project.

Replacing a flange typically requires removing the retaining screws and installing a new flange. Rest the toilet bowl on its side place it on a towel or cloth to protect the floor and attach the replacement wax ring to the bottom of the bowl. Line the bolts up on the sides of the bowl and gently place the toilet on the repaired flange and press to the floor. Then remove the toilet by disconnecting the hoses and unscrewing the bolts on the floor.

To replace a toilet flange lay newspaper down on the floor around the toilet and turn off the water to the toilet before flushing and siphoning all of the water out of the bowl. Cement floors present the most difficult medium for replacing floor flanges. Clean up around the bottom of the toilet and place the new wax ring on the repaired flange. With the toilet flange in place you are ready to install the toilet with a new wax ring.
