Inspect your attic for tunnelling especially if your house has blown in insulation. Enter the attic and wearing a hepa filter mask use a spray bottle or similar to douse the insulation surface and any objects where mouse droppings are present. Rodents gain access to your home s insulation through your attic and walls and there are several ways they can enter your home. Needless to say the rest of the vacation was not that great.

Mice often tunnel in materials like this and can even get behind fiberglass insulation in order to keep them warm while they are nesting. Mice are fearful so if they can hide their whereabouts they will do so especially when they hear you coming. In fact on a recent vacation we had at least 2 rats living in the attic.
